Can a mayor of a small town or city close school for an emergency evacuation?Or only the school superintendent?

We live in a small town in Texas and need to leave before Hurricane Ike hits us,and the Mayor says that only the school superintendent can close the schools,so if we leave,our children will have an unexcused absent.We are in a county that has been posted as a warning.Who is the superintendent’s boss in the Mayor’s city?

uh…..why does it freaking matter? Your kids are in danger; get them the hell out and figure out the stupid absence policy after the water receeds.

Afterwards; try the school’s atty and the school board.
