were moving to arizona, what city/town is better chandler or glendale?
we as a family are really into art and diversity is also important.
i have a 6th grader and a 11th grader so academics is very important.
also is there a lot to do these areas?
I grew up in Glendale (from 6th grade to age 19) but now live in Chandler.
I will never again move back to Glendale-I HATE it there!! it’s overall rundown and old. there are some places that are safe and clean but they are few and far between. the schools I attended were always overcrowded and the issues with gang violence ran rampent not only in the school but my neighborhood as well. there aren’t too many things for children to do there either (outside of your normal parks, sports arenas, etc). the malls in the area are quite old too.
i’ve lived in Chandler for the past 5 years and love it. my neighborhood is safe and quiet, my girls attend a small charter school (which is actually in Tempe about 10 mins away), we go to church near our house, and all 3 of my daughters do cheer and gymnastics locally. there are tons of places to take kids- (nearby city of gilbert has an awesome preserve where you can fish, hike,etc)- paseo trail is an 18 mile hiking trail that is fun to walk along, jog, bike, etc. chandler fashion center is fairly new and has lots of shops/nice restaurants.
I typically do a 4 mile jog around my neighborhood at 9pm at night and feel totally safe (there are several people out walking their dogs) and most of the stores I shop at are clean and safe.
the kyrene school district is one of the better ones (San Tan junior high and Highland high schools are great schools in the chandler area) but personally speaking, I feel that any az public school suffers due to budget restraints, overcrowding, etc. the charter school my kids attend does not charge me tuition but they have several fundraisers throughout the year that help pay bills for the school.
hope this helps!!

In general, Chandler. But they both have their good and bad areas. I believe the schools in Chandler are better, especially if you can get in a neighborhood that accesses the Kyrene District.
For Glendale, you would need to stay north of Dunlap at the least to find a neighborhood that is still essentially good. Deer Valley is near Glendale and I have heard decent things and the schools get good ratings, but don’t have personal experience there.
These 2 areas are also about 30-40 miles apart, one is the NW Valley and the other is a SE suburb. So, part of the choice should be where you will need to travel for work, you don’t want to spend an hour or two a day in traffic.
Whichever area you choose, just do your homework. Again there are good and bad areas within each of these cities. Check the crime stats on the Police websites. Ask your realtor. And, you can check out school ratings at: http://www.greatschools.net
As for things to do, my opinion is there is more on the East side, but you can traverse the entire Valley in about 1-1.5 hours to get to what you want in another suburb.

The East Valley way nicer than the West Valley, so Chandler. But, I think Gilbert is nicer than Chandler, and it’s more family-oriented. Scottsdale and Paradise Valley are the nicest, but also the most expensive. Also, Ahwatukee is pretty nice too.
