# Fish At The Best Times – There are times of the day, week, and month that simply aren’t worth fishing. When Mother Nature is against you, you might as well not bother wetting a line. As an experienced trout angler one of the best trout fishing tips I have is to maximize your fishing time as much as possible. A great way to accomplish this task is by using the simple rules of Mother Nature to your advantage so that you’re on the water as the most opportune times.
# Present Bait Naturally – When fishing for trout and using bait (which is a great idea by the way) you want to present your bait in the most natural way possible. Remember, large trout get that way for a reason. They have been caught before, and have seen almost anything that you throw at them before. For this reason you want your bait to look a much like it does naturally as possible. Gang hooks are the best way I’ve seen to accomplish this task, especially if worms are being used as bait.

The Madison River begins as an odd spring creek in Yellowstone National Park. The reason it is so odd is that it is fed by both cold and hot springs that make their way into it’s two feeder streams, the Firehole and Gibbon. It fishes best in this upper portion in the late spring, early summer, and fall. During the summer, the water often grows too warm to allow the trout to feed, because of the hot springs. Rainbows and browns in the 10-14″ range are the primary residents, but in spring, large rainbows move up from Hebgen Lake. In the fall, large browns, also from Hebgen, do the same. Dry flies are standard fare for the residents. The migratory rainbows and browns prefer gaudy streamers and wet flies fished deep.

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Wine making is a really good hobby to start if you are like me and really enjoy spending time in the kitchen. You do not need a fancy winery or anything like that to make some incredible wine at home. All you really need is some minimal equipment (which you probably already have in your kitchen) and the desire and willingness to learn something new. It is always a good idea to buy a book of wine making recipes. I have found the quickest way to learn this hobby is to just start on page one of a recipe book and start making wine.

Let’s walk up the stream for our last Trout Fishing Tip

Once we get to the stream we are going to walk up stream. When Trout are feeding they will always face upstream so they can catch the food as it flows down stream with the current.

Reading the stream – as we walk up the stream we are going to look upstream for places where Trout will most likely be.

Trout like to feed in the rapids as mentioned above

Look for calm pools just off the rapids, these pools may be very small, most people would bypass them and not even notice. Finding these little place Trout like to hang out is what will help you catch more fish.

Look for rocks on the bank or large rocks in the stream

Look for logs on the bank or in the water

Also look for surfacing Trout. In this case you may want to try a grass hopper, Dry Fly or one of your lures.

My way of thinking is that the nervous systems of cold-blooded creatures are not that highly-developed. The unofficial theory is that invertebrates (they have no spine) and cold-blooded vertebrates, such as fish, don’t really have enough brain power to have complex sensations. Really, you could go nuts wondering when using live bait that the worm or bait feels pain, too! I can see it now – t-shirts with this on them: “Save the bait, use an artificial lure!”

There are extensive debates for and against this idea about whether or not fish can feel pain. When you look this subject up on the Internet, the term that is associated with my simplistic theory is called neuroanatomy. Then, on the side of the “fish can feel pain” camp, is the concept that the evolutionary process must have some kind of pain-avoidance built in for species to survive. But this argument is mostly supported using comparisons to the human brain. To me, the human brain just can’t be compared to fish brains (well, in most cases, anyway).

Wine Collections …

California Wine Club I am a pretty big lover of wine. I have travelled the world visiting vineyards in most of the major wine regions. I am an expert wine taster with a pretty highly developed tongue if I do say so myself, but there is one part of the world where I have to confess I have been a bit lacking in investigating their wine That area would be South Africa. The primary reason for this is that for many years now the wine coming out of that area has been substandard. It just is not (or at least has not) been up to my personal taste standards.
